Hoa Lu Festival- Historic and Traditional Value in Ninh Binh
Hoa Lu Festival is held annually and becomes a traditional relic of ancient capital in Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province- where the two temples of King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh. Thus, the festival has many names: Festival Truong Yen, Traditional Festival Hoa Lu, Festival Co Lau.Every year, on the occasion of the lunar March, the people of Truong Yen are nurtured to prepare the festival to commemorate and merit the two national heroes Dinh Bo Linh and Le Hoan.
The festival is held in three days from the 9th to the 11th of the lunar March, conjun ction with the fact that King Ding was crowned Emperor on March 10, 968. The festival has many ceremonies and activities attached with the life of King Dinh Tien Hoang.
Opening Ceremony of the temple: Before the festival, the people held the opening ceremony of the temple for the sacrifice of the gods and the two kings were asked to celebrate the festival and at the same time, the gods bless the festivities to be held successfully.
Water procession: From the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang, River procession to the Hoang Long River is associated with the legend of Golden dragon floating up the king Ding over the river. After the god of the river, the water was taken to the procession to the temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang serving the sacrifice.
Water at the Hoang Long River during the procession of water after the sacrifice is used to worship the statue. This is a preparatory work but is done in the main festival because of the most sacred moments and pure water at the Hoang Long River.
Incense offering: It took place immediately after the completion of the Moc Duc to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of their adoration with the god in the holy hour of the festival.
Sacrifice: The ritual was held to commemorate the art of singing by King Dinh Tien Hoang, as well as the way of local people to review the history and merit of the king through the form of folk art.
After the ceremony assembly with the folk games: Tuc hem – Co Lau Tap Tran; The life and work of King Dinh Tien Hoang have been reproduced through two typical contents, in two stages: childhood (Tap Tran Co Lau) and pacification (Keo Chu Thai Binh).
Tuc Hem-Co Lau Tap Tran: This is a repertory reminiscent of the childhood of King Dinh Tien Hoang. Childhood buffalo herd with friends playing traditional games, thanks to that experience to draw experience to defeat 12 warlords, reunify the country and ascend the emperor.
“Keo Chu Thai Binh”: In 970, King Dinh Tien Hoang took as Thai Binh year with the wish of people to enjoy peaceful, warm and happy. Thai Binh scroll is a special item with the characteristics of cultural activities – beliefs. This is a folk game ritual show. Scissoring force of 50 – 60 people wearing uniforms in Thai Binh
Some competitions: swimming competition, wrestling reminiscent of King Dinh military selection and training of marine. There are also other activities such as chess, cock fighting, cooking … contribute to the atmosphere of fun, attractive, and the attention of many people.
The historical value of the Hoa Lu Festival is reflected in the re-enactment of the life of King Dinh Tien Hoang, proclaiming the independent cause, laying the foundations for the feudal system so that Dai Co Viet would compare the Northern Tong (Bắc Tống). The ceremonies in the festival have shown the principle of “drinking water remembers the source” with the deep gratitude of our nation.
The cultural value of the festival is a common ritual of the community, a very important ritual in the cultural life expressed through spiritual activities and forms of folk and artistic performances words…. Community spirit is a special role in spiritual life; bring positive values and pride in the Hoa Lu ancient capital.
